Can People Really Be Toxic?

The word toxic seems a harsh description when it comes to people, but is it? Food can be toxic, chemicals can be toxic, and yes, people can be toxic too.…

7 Ways to Develop Healthier Eating Habits

    April 25, 2018 / 24 Comments

Eating. It’s such a big deal in almost everyone’s lives – for various reason—unfortunately. Obviously, we all have to eat—even busy people. For most of us, there’s a time issue – just not enough time in the day for shopping, preparation, and cooking for every meal. Leading to more ready-made meals, which are high in fat, salt, and sugar content. Even when you plan ahead, sometimes it just doesn’t work out for whatever reason – it’s life, right? Not having a plan (or having a plan that falls through) leads to more visits to restaurants, especially at fast food establishments. This of course, means eating foods high in fat and…

4 Ways to Get Rid of Negative Self-Talk

    April 24, 2018 / 2 Comments

Happy Tuesday! The sleep study is in the books – both my daughter and husband survived. Now we wait to find out if my daughter has sleep apnea. She was diagnosed when she was smaller, but a tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy solved the problem at the time. But now, we could be looking at a CPAP machine (a machine to that uses pressure to keep the breathing passages open) while she is asleep – the doctor even noted that most kids don’t do very well with them. Not a surprise as many adults don’t do well either! We’ll know the results next Monday. Fingers crossed… Today, we re going to talk about self-talk.…

Let’s Start a New Spring Routine for Success

    April 23, 2018 / 2 Comments

It’s another Monday! I hope everyone’s weekend was relaxing so we can all hit this week hard! My daughter has a sleep study tonight (which my husband so graciously volunteered to attend!) so her week has already been altered. I’m not sure if she is going to school on Monday or Tuesday which won’t make her happy. Which alters my week too… But I’m optimistic. It’s really looking like spring here in Texas. While I know that is not the case everywhere, we are going to try to embrace what the calendar says—it’s almost the middle of spring—and see if we can manifest spring! Maybe not… But we can get…

Part 2: Tips for Pilates Beginners

    April 21, 2018 / 1 Comment

Yesterday, we covered the Pilates 101. This is an overview of what you need to be successful at Pilates as well as an overview of some of the beginner moves. Tools for Beginners A Quality Pilates Mat The mat is important because if you don’t like how it feels, you won’t be motivated to keep up with your exercises. People often assume it doesn’t matter what you work out in or with (like clothes or the mat), but it can make a difference. Since much of Pilates is done on the floor, you want the mat to be cushioned and as comfortable as possible. A typical yoga mat is fine,…

    Part 1 – Pilates 101: Weight-Free Toning and Strengthening

    April 20, 2018 / 5 Comments

Pilates is a popular workout for body toning without weights or fancy gym equipment. It is something you can do anywhere and is very effective when you are consistent. It was originally invented by Joe Pilates, who wanted to help people align the spine, strengthen the core, and be aware of their muscles. One of my best friends and I took a Pilates class at a gym in Atlanta almost 20 years ago. That didn’t go well for us. We both had done a lot of cardio and weight training – we were in good shape! Both of us had been dancers in our younger years – I had been…
